The Department is well supplied with major equipment including preparative centrifuges, recording spectrophotometers, high performance liquid chromatographs with variable and fixed detectors, infra-red spectrophotom-eter, beta and gamma scintillation counters, GC/MS spectrophotometer with data system, gas chromatographs with autosamplers and computing integrators, inductively-coupled plasma emission spectrophotometer for multielemental analysis and other equipment for measuring a wide variety of biological and molecular parameters.
Most of the equipment in the Department is shared among the various research laboratories. The Department also has a self-contained unit which has special equipment, including appropriate hoods, for the handling and storage of carcinogenic chemicals and drugs. Other specialty rooms are equipped as a radioimmunoassay facility, a tissue culture facility, a histopathology preparative facility, and a photographic dark room as well as two walk-in cold rooms.
