Sangsiri Receives American Heart Association Fellowship
Sutheera (Emmy) Sangsiri, a current graduate student with Dr. James J. Galligan, was recently awarded an American Heart Association (AHA) Midwest Affiliate Predoctoral Fellowship entitled, “Expression and Function of Adenosine Receptors in Mesenteric and Veins in Normal and Hypertensive Rats”. This award is a very prestigious and competitive. Emmy competed with ~150 applicants and < 10 % of the applications were funded. AHA provides funding for the development of beginning investigators to increase knowledge about cardiovascular sciences.
Emmy is from Thailand and she has been a Ph.D. student since 2007. Emmy joined the Galligan laboratory in 2008.
The two-year fellowship will help Emmy develop my research expertise related to neural control of the cardiovascular system. She will use electrophysiological, pharmacological and molecular biological approaches in her project. After completion of her Ph.D. training she will seek out further postdoctoral in the U.S. before returning to Thailand where she plans to follow an academic career path as a professor and research specialist in the cardiovascular system. She looks forward to being a professor and mentor for her own students.
