Bio

Dr. Jackson is Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Michigan State University. Received his Ph.D. in Physiology from Michigan State University in 1979 and was a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Brian Duling’s lab in the Department of physiology at the University of Virginia. He then moved to the Department of Physiology and Endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia where is rose from the rank of Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. He then moved to the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University where he rose to the rank of Professor. In 1998 he was named a Distinguished Faculty Scholar WMU’s highest award for his research accomplishments. In 2005 he was recruited back to MSU to start an online Professional Science Masters program in Integrative Pharmacology and is the founding Director of this program. Dr. Jackson’s research focuses on identifying the ion channels expressed by both arteriolar smooth muscle and endothelial cells, how these ion channels function in the regulation of myogenic tone; the mechanisms underlying vasoconstriction and vasodilation; oxygen signaling in the microcirculation. and how aging and disease states such as hypertension and obesity impact the expression and function of ion channels in the microcirculation.
